A man who tried to lure nine victims into his red convertible in San Diego's North County - succeeding during two attempts - will be sentenced Tuesday. Spicer Van Allen Conant, 46, pleaded guilty last month to kidnapping and other criminal charges stemming from his contact with two women and seven underage girls in Escondido beginning in May 2016.

The number of women lodging sexual misconduct charges against a San Diego sheriff's deputy passed a dozen this week, as two more women filed legal claims. Thirteen women have now leveled groping accusations and worse against Deputy Richard Fischer, who has been on leave since the allegations first surfaced last fall and remains the subject of both criminal and administrative investigations.

An Escondido man who broke into several North County homes and sexually assaulted young girls as they slept in their bedrooms was sentenced Thursday to 100 years to life in state prison. Gilbert Chavarria, dubbed "the Creeper," pleaded guilty in October to 13 felony charges, including assault with intent to commit lewd acts on children.

Mira Mesa bank robbery leads to pursuit, arrest

A man who allegedly robbed a Mira Mesa credit union office Wednesday led police and sheriff's personnel on a car and foot chase that ended with the suspect's arrest in a North County neighborhood near Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. The holdup at the Navy Federal Credit Union branch on Black Mountain Road near Mira Mesa Boulevard took place shortly before 9:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.
